Otmar D. Wiestler, MD, is Director of Champalimaud Science at the Champalimaud Foundation in Lisbon, Portugal. Previously, he served as president of the Helmholtz Association, Germany’s largest scientific research organization, with national labs covering the fields of health, energy, earth & environment, aeronautics & space & transport, matter, and information. Professor Wiestler also served as the Chairman of the Executive Board and Scientific Director of the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg for over 11 years. His areas of biomedical expertise include cancer research, neurooncology, neuropathology, tumor genetics, and stem cell research.
